
Chief Sandfoss was hired by the Central Campbell County Fire
District on July 1, 2000. Chief Sandfoss started his fire service career at the age of 17 with the
Highland Heights Volunteer Fire Department. At the age of eighteen he joined the military for two
years. He served in the Vietnam War with the Second Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne
Division. In 1972, he was hired as a full-time firefighter with the Fort Thomas Fire Department.
He became one of the department's first emergency medical technicians. He rose through the ranks of
Lieutenant and Captain, and also served in an Acting Chief's position. At Fort Thomas he was a shift
commander as well as being responsible for public fire education, fire inspections, and fire
investigations. He also assisted in implementing the first municipal advanced life support unit in
Northern Kentucky. Chief Sandfoss retired from Fort Thomas in 2000 after twenty eight years of service
to that community.
Chief Sandfoss possesses a degree in fire science
from Northern Kentucky University. He is a past president of the Campbell County Firefighter
Association, a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and is a Fiscal Court appointee to the
Campbell County Consolidated Dispatched Board. He also does volunteer work with the Saint Vincent
DePaul Society.
