PUBLIC EDUCATION AND EVENTS

The goal of public education on emergencies is to prevent fires and the damaging impact of fires and emergencies through planning, coordination, and education of adults and children.

Simply stated, our goal is that all of our citizens, from preschoolers to senior citizens, will learn the proper action to take in case of fire or life emergencies. We have several programs and tools to accomplish this goal. We are committed to ensuring that not one more citizen suffers fire injury or death due to a lack of knowledge or preparation.

FIRST AID/CPR CLASSES

CCCFD currently offers a wide variety of classes to both the general public and other healthcare providers. We are an ASHI Training Facility through the Health and Safety Institute (HSI).

Burn Permit Form

OPEN BURN PERMITS

Open burning is generally permitted between October 1st and April 30th, barring special circumstances such as excessive poor air quality, unusually dry weather, high winds, an extreme fire hazard declaration resulting in a burn ban, etc. To learn more about Kentucky's Burn Ban counties, click here. Anyone from Cold Spring, Highland Heights, Crestview, or the unincorporated areas of Campbell County with an address residing within Central Campbell Fire District coverage area, wishing to burn off their excess brush or wood, must obtain a permit of authorization at the fire station located at 4113 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring or submit a burn permit from the link provided prior to burning. Permits will expire 7 days after date of issuance and a new permit will need to be requested.

The general regulations for open burning are listed below but stricter rules may be enforced by the county or authority having jurisdiction.

Burning within 150 feet of woodland is prohibited
Burning within 50 feet of any building or structure is prohibited
Remove flammable materials from around the burn area of about 15 feet in all directions
Burn piles should not exceed 10 feet in length, width, or height. Multiple piles are acceptable as long as they meet the above restrictions
You must remain with the burning materials until the fire is extinguished
Maintain an available water source or fire extinguisher on-site while burning in case the fire were to spread
You may only burn natural materials (fallen trees, leaves, grass, brush). Environmental and health concerns relating to air quality include the toxic emissions from the combustion of: TREATED LUMBER or wood such as skids or landscaping timbers, ASPHALTIC SHINGLES, INSLUATION on WIRING, SYNTHETIC MATERIALS such as CARPETING, CARPET PADS, UPHOLSTERY, PLASTIC, LEAD from LEAD-BASED PAINT MATERIALS, and ASBESTOS EMISSIONS from PIPE LAGGING, TRANSITE SIDING SHINGLES, or ASBESTOS contained in ASPHALTIC ROOFING SHINGLES. or other man-made type products such as treated wood on skids, carpeting, shingles, foam or fiberglass insulation, anything containing asbestos, etc.

Applicable air quality regulations include:

401 KAR 63:005 Open Burning;

401 KAR 63:020 Potentially hazardous matter or toxic substance;

401 KAR 63:021 Existing sources emitting toxic air pollutions;

401 KAR 63:022 New or modified sources emitting toxic air pollution;

401 KAR 57:011 Asbestos standards (NESHAP); and

401 KAR 63:042 Requirements for asbestos abatement entities

FAILURE to comply with these regulations could result in CRIMINAL CHARGES per Campbell County Ordinance 0-3-93 Section 150.26 Open Burning; Holder of this permit must also comply with applicable Cold Spring, Highland Heights, and Crestview City Ordinances.

The holder of the permit shall be held liable for damages to adjacent structures and/or property resulting from fires set under the permit.
